Cross country state meet set for Thetford

The Champlain Valley girls and the Essex boys cross country teams used a similar strategy this season: pack running.

That approach could benefit both programs at Saturday’s Vermont State Cross Country Championships at Thetford Academy.

The Redhawk girls, who are aiming for a sixth straight Division I crown, continue to churn out deep, talented squads. The Hornet boys, who have quietly put together an unbeaten record vs. Vermont teams, are searching for their first title since 2004.

The boys JV race will kick off the state meet at 10:30 a.m., followed by the boys D-II race at 11:15. The girls D-I race, which is slated for a 2:15 p.m. start time, will conclude the meet.

Division I

The CVU girls team’s lineup of seven has changed since last year, but that’s not an issue coach Scott Bliss said.
